AATG National German Exam
for High School Students
The AATG National German Exam for High School Students is given every year in December or January for German levels II, III, and IV. It consists of 100 multiple choice questions and test skills such as listening, grammar, and reading. For each level of German, there are two categories: 1.) native and 2.) non-native speaker.
The eligible high school student in Europe who scores highest in his/her respective category on each level will be awarded a book prize and a certificate of merit by the AATG-European Chapter. Many students, however, enjoy taking this exam simply to get testing practice and to see how they compare with students from other participating schools in Europe. Occasionally, a college or university in the United States will send scholarship information to students who score very high on the exam.
If you teach German at a European international school or at a school affiliated with the US military in Europe and would like to administer the AATG National German Exam to your students, please write to the Chapter Testing Chairperson for more information: Sam Alsup from Baumholder High School samuel.alsup@eu.dodea.edu or sam.alsup@t-online.de.
